As The Kirby Company approaches its 100th anniversary, there’s one man who has worked through half of it.
Matt Maniaci, of Elyria, Ohio, celebrated his 50th anniversary in the Kirby business in March. His Kirby career has provided more than an opportunity to succeed; it’s given him a life of purpose and a place where he belongs.
“The hard part comes when you try to put into words the love and friendships of our fellow Kirby people,” Maniaci said. “It’s a feeling that will never leave you, it will never let you down, it will give you strength when you need it, and it becomes even bigger and greater when you share it with someone else.”
His wife, Joann, encouraged him to join the Kirby sales business in 1962. Maniaci started his Kirby career as an independent Kirby Dealer and rose through the ranks, continuing to sell Kirby vacuum cleaners door-to-door even when he headed his own Kirby distributorship in Cleveland, Ohio, beginning in 1982. Maniaci took a position at World Headquarters in 1993, and continues to play an integral role in sharing his knowledge with future generations of Kirby distributors with the sole purpose of helping them succeed, too.
The Kirby Company celebrates its centennial in 2014 and Maniaci plans to be a part of it.
