Several drivers that have tested have reported that the home sleep test is less than an eighth of the cost of the in-lab alternative.

The Aviisha Medical Institute’s DriveSafe Program is lowering costs associated with the testing and treatment of sleep apnea for commercial drivers. Launched in February 2012, the DriveSafe program is also aimed at raising awareness about this serious disease and helping drivers stay compliant with treatment.
The DriveSafe Program is the institute’s latest effort to combat the effects of sleep apnea. Sleep apnea has recently been spotlighted in the commercial driver industry. In February, a joint committee of the Motor Carrier Safety Advisory Committee and Medical Review Board adopted 10 recommendations which will require all commercial drivers with a body mass index of 35 or higher to be tested for sleep apnea. The recommendations are intended to be interim guidance while the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration goes through its rulemaking process. A person with a body mass index of 35 or higher is considered obese and is at high risk of having sleep apnea.
Under the DriveSafe Program, commercial drivers can get tested for sleep apnea without ever having to visit a sleep lab. By using home sleep tests and auto-titrating PAP devices patients can completely avoid the cost and inconvenience of visiting a sleep lab. The home sleep test is significantly less expensive than the in-lab test which benefits both drivers and their employers. Several drivers who have tested have reported that the home sleep test is less than an eighth of the cost of the in-lab alternative. Drivers also praised the convenience and ease of testing.
The DriveSafe Program also has a treatment component. Patients who test positive for sleep apnea can get all their treatment needs met through Aviisha, including compliance management which will be required to retain a license. The program is a complete solution for transportation companies seeking to comply with the upcoming regulations.
Aviisha has been working both with individual drivers and transportation companies through its DriveSafe program. To find out more call 877-634-7748 x112.
