By switching the head-end of our access control system to RedCloud, we were able to save 40 percent of our recurring annual system support and licensing costs, without having to replace any of our door controllers.
Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) March 28, 2012
ISC West 2012 – RedCloud, formerly known as PlaSec, today announced that Falls Church City Public Schools (FCCPS) has successfully deployed RedCloud Virtual, a scalable, web-based, access control virtual appliance, which allows security staff to easily manage building access across multiple facilities from any web browser.
Falls Church City Public Schools is a nationally recognized, K-12 school system near Washington, DC, serving more than 1,900 students and employing approximately 600 teachers and staff across four schools – one high school, one middle school and two elementary schools – and one central administration office. To ensure the safety and security of its students, faculty and visitors at all times, FCCPS requires card access for approximately 50 perimeter and interior doors, which are controlled by open, non-proprietary field hardware.
With the annual service contract of its client/server-based access control system up for renewal, FCCPS needed to install a new rack-mounted server to complete its next security system upgrade. Given the high maintenance costs of its legacy system, FCCPS turned to LV Comm-Sec Inc., an access control, intrusion detection and CCTV systems integrator – and a RedCloud authorized integrator – to explore cost-effective alternatives to its existing access control system and leverage its existing, VMware infrastructure.
“The entire cost of installing, licensing and provisioning the new rack-mounted server was greater than the cost to convert our access control system to RedCloud,” said Seve Padilla, Director of Facility and Security Services, Falls Church City Public Schools. “By switching the head-end of our access control system to RedCloud, we were able to save 40 percent of our recurring annual system support and licensing costs, without having to replace any of our door controllers.”
Because of RedCloud Virtual’s support for open, non-proprietary field hardware and its VMware Ready deployment capabilities, LV Comm-Sec was able to easily convert all of the existing door panels and seamlessly migrate from the legacy physical access control system to RedCloud’s web-based access control system in record time.
“The benefit of RedCloud Virtual is that we were able to have it up and running in less than three hours,” said Kevin Morgan, President, LV Comm-Sec. “It worked just as promised, in a remarkably short period of time and I was amazed at how seamlessly the installation and system take over went ... it was unbelievable.”
Unlike the legacy client/server-based access control system that limited user access to a small handful of PC and laptop workstations, RedCloud’s web-based, access control system provides users with the flexibility to securely manage employee access privileges from a broad range of devices (smartphone, tablet, laptop), from any location (home, office, road), and via any standard web browser (Firefox, Safari and Internet Explorer).
Additionally, because of RedCloud’s significant annual cost savings, LV Comm-Sec was able to extend the reach of FCCPS’s access control system, issuing building access credentials to several hundred parents whose children were enrolled in before- and after-care school programs and granting cardholders specific building access privileges during early drop-off and late pick-up hours.
“As one of the premiere small school systems in the nation, Falls Church City Public Schools has implemented an industry-leading model for school safety and building security best practices,” said Dave Basil, Chief Executive Officer, RedCloud. “LV Comm-Sec’s successful RedCloud Virtual deployment is a powerful, real-world example of the dramatic cost savings, system performance and efficiency improvements that can be achieved through the convergence of physical, logical and virtual access control systems.”
RedCloud Virtual is the industry's first and only physical access control system (PACS) that is VMware Ready for deployment in a virtual server environment, enabling organizations of all sizes to secure their facilities, people and assets at anytime, anywhere from any standard web browser and is exclusively available through a nationwide network of authorized integrators.
RedCloud, formerly known as PlaSec, is a revolutionary access control solution, engineered from the ground up by IT and security veterans to deliver a new standard in performance, integration and efficiency that can only be achieved through convergence. RedCloud’s patented, web-based, physical and virtual appliance platform leverages an open architecture, integrates identity management and video surveillance and achieves the highest level of scalability with the lowest cost of ownership, making RedCloud the logical choice in access control.
