The bronze sculpture of George H. O’brien Jr. placed in front of the newly renamed medical center located in Big Spring, Texas, is featured on the cover of Big Spring's Yellow Page Directory for the 2012 calendar year.
The Department of Veterans Affairs medical center in Big Spring, Texas, which was renamed the George H. O’Brien Jr., Department of Veterans Affairs, in October of 2011 was rededicated in honor of the Medal of Honor recipient.
George H. O’Brien Jr.,was raised in Big Spring, Texas, and was a private in the US Marine Corps Reserve until he was called to active duty in 1951. Later O’Brien became the city of Big Spring’s only Medal of Honor recipient for his courageous actions while fighting in the Vietnam War.
Big Statues, a custom bronze sculpting company based out of Provo, Utah, sculpted the life-size bronze sculpture of George H. O’Brien Jr. for the newly renamed medical center last year. The sculpture depicts O’Brien in active combat gear carrying a gun.
