Inspired by her love for grandchildren and her passion for children’s books, author Sandra Shepherd presents her one-of-a-kind book titled Up The River with Kangaroo and Possumpo. In this exciting read, children will find the eclectic set of interesting characters namely, Kangapoo, Possumpoo, Cockapoo, Magpoo, Turtapoo and Crocapoo. This fable takes readers to the adventures and misadventures of these characters as they thrive within their bush community.

All these animals live together in their habitat near East Alligator River. The gang’s favorite past time activities involve going on adventures and sitting around and eating crispy bush flies and eucalyptus juice on the river bank. One day Kangapoo and Possumpoo take a ride up the river on Turtapoo’s back. Nonetheless in the middle of their tour on the river, Turtapoo decides to take a nap, thus leaving his two friends, Kangapoo and Possumpoo stranded on a river bank. Now they find ways to survive. Possumpoo finds a tin can to ride on the water, an ingenious idea. However this leaves Kangapoo left behind. Cockapoo then comes to the rescue by finding planks and ropes for his stranded friend. He tosses him the tie and drags Kangapoo up the river. This should have worked except that Cockapoo gets tangled up which eventually leaves Kangapoo catapulted into the air and thus he fell subject to being Crocapoo’s prey.

This humorous and whimsical book illustrates the playful spirit and inquisitive nature of its characters. For just like children, they venture out into many fun activities whilst trying to find out various ways in dealing with each other and the world around them. The end of this endearing fable captures the light-hearted sense of humour found in almost anyone who is just willing to let go and let the exhilarating ride of life take its course. The message of this story suggests that in life, despite being tangled up in situations and catapulted into the unknown, a good sense of humour can allow one to rise above all of his problems, if he is just willing to relax and let fate and nature take its course.

Up The River with Kangapoo and Possumpoo will be featured at the Frankfurt Book Fair Book Exhibit in Frankfurt, Germany which will run October 10-14, 2012. For more information, log on to http://www.xlibris.com
