Vela Research announced that it will be demonstrating the second product in its family of high performance, compact, multi-screen, multi-format streaming and storage decoder solutions – the four channel CineWave QuadHD decoder. Capable of decoding MPEG-2, AVC/H.264, VC1 and MPEG4 Part 2, this board enables operators to decode four independent channels of content and streamed over IP over the Internet or intranets at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention in Las Vegas, NV on April 16, 2012. The CineWave Quad HD provides a full set of functionality such as Closed Captioning, full audio, up-conversion to HD and down-scaling to SD as needed.
Vela’s CineWave QuadHD decoder, a board-level solution based upon Vela’s Emmy award winning digital signal processing technology, utilizes a System on IC design to eliminate the need for a host PC, and comes in a ultra-compact full-length PCIe form factor. The CineWave QuadHD hardware decoder enables high performance, continuous decoding, with very high quality video at extremely low bitrates – and is ideally suited for live events, digital signage and streaming applications – as well as providing an extremely price competitive solution for traditional OTT, Broadcast, Cable, VOD, video distribution, education, government, defense and healthcare applications.
The comprehensive feature list of the CineWave QuadHD decoder board includes these and a wide array of other features required in the most demanding user environments today:
- 4 Independent Channels of Decode • MPEG2 Main Profile @ Main & High Levels
- Component, Composite, S-Video Outputs • AVC/H.264 Decoding
- HDMI Output • VC1 Decoding
- IP Input • MPEG 4 Part 2 Decoding
- PAL/ NTSC/Cinema support • Dolby® Digital pass through
- SD & HD decoding @ multiple resolutions • Hardware Demultiplexer Support
- EIA 608 and 708 Closed Captioning • System on Chip Design for increased reliability
- SD to HD or HD to SD conversion • System on Chip Design for reduced cost
- Hardware based video scaling • Web based GUI and control
Mike Reddy, President & CEO of Vela said, “designed specifically to serve those applications demanding high channel density and low cost per channel within the broadcasting, cable, VOD, digital signage, education and enterprise segments, the CineWave QuadHD decoder offers very high video quality decoding of MPEG-2, AVC/H.264, VC1 and MPEG4 Part 2. The SOIC design and hardware-based scaling enable highly efficient and high quality SD-HD up-conversion and downscaling, and the increased reliability necessary for mission-critical applications. This is an ideal option for customers or OEMs seeking solutions for the PEG, hospitality, and healthcare markets.”
Kevin Grubbs, Vela’s Director of Engineering, said “the CineWave QuadHD decoder accepts and decodes 4 fully independent channels of video, supports IP inputs, component, composite and S-Video outputs, analog video and audio outputs, HDMI output, SPDIF digital audio output, EIA 608 and EIA 708 Closed Captioning and other VANC data, NTSC, PAL and Cinema formats up to 1920x1080P @ 60 frames per second. The streaming capability is unicast or multicast in UDP or RTP and RTSP. The CineWave QuadHD decoder also incorporates an intuitive web based graphical user interface (GUI), for quick configuration and ease of operation within a time-saving and user-friendly encoding environment. Further details on the CineWave QuadHD can be found here.”
