ReversePhoneLookup.com, the free reverse phone directory which launched just seventeen months ago, is announcing that the website identified its one millionth phone number yesterday. The site retrieves the owner and address information belonging to a phone number, offering virtually the same service that public record aggregators charge between $4.95 and 14.95 for, completely free of charge.
Had such searches been performed at fee-based public record directories, users would have collectively spent between five and fifteen million dollars for this information. Even more remarkable, as a free service, the site rarely spends any money on advertising. Word of mouth and Google are the primary ways in which users finds the site.
The website points out their service can't help everyone. Some phone numbers simply can't be identified using this site or the public record based services. Pre-paid telephones are particularly difficult to identify as often these phones are used for temporary or short term use. Mobile phone numbers in general are more difficult to identify than land-line phone numbers. That said, the websites remains committed to expanding its coverage, including information on as many of these as possible.
When information on a searched phone number is found, a report may include the owner’s name, address, a map of the location, the service provider name, the type of service, zip codes in the coverage area, and caller complaints information. These complaints are not generated on the site itself, but rather, they are aggregated from message boards and consumer complaint sites across the web.

Launched in October 2010, Reverse Phone Lookup is a targeted phone lookup service which enables visitors to find the owner of a telephone number completely free from charges when it’s available. Aside from giving the owner’s full name, a listing for a number on the site includes a map of the number’s location, description of the carrier type, who the service provider is, and the address of said owner.
