9th International Conference on Coatings on Glass and Plastics

The 9th International Conference on Coatings on Glass & Plastics (ICCG) will take place at the Chassé Theater in Breda, the Netherlands on 24 – 28 June, 2012. Organised by the ICCG International Organizing Committee, and local organisers TNO and Holst Centre, the conference brings together leaders in the science and industry of coatings on glass and plastics. Over 400 scientists, technologists, practitioners and managers from universities, research institutes, coating manufacturers, materials and equipment suppliers and a wide range of user industries will attend to discuss the latest developments in the field. Topics on the programme include technologies such as ALD, roll-to-roll processing, inkjet printing and HIPIMS magnetron sputtering, and application areas like photovoltaics, touch panels, solar protection and optical filters.

There will also be a panel discussion on “How to realise novel concepts for transparent conducting coatings?” Attendees will also have ample opportunity for networking and to discuss the latest trends in research and applications

Conference programme
ICCG9 will follow a similar structure to the successful eight previous ICCG events. The conference will be divided into 8 separate sessions:

  •     Introductory session on the market for and business of coatings on glass and plastics
  •     Deposition technologies 1: pulsed plasma and ion sources in vacuum
  •     Deposition technologies 2: Wet-chemical and hybrid processes
  •     Deposition technologies 3: CVD, ALD and other emerging processes
  •     Process control methods, characterization and modelling
  •     Key technologies for displays, touch panels and flexible electronics
  •     Precision optics and other high-performance coatings
  •     Solar, architectural, automotive and other applications

Across these sessions, there will be more than 20 keynote and invited speakers as well as contributed oral and poster presentations. Keynote speakers include:

Pre- and post-conference activities
Prior to the conference, there will be a short course of introductory lectures by renowned experts in the field. The course will cover the following topics.

  •     Touch panel developments and technologies
  •     Process modelling
  •     Basics, trends and developments in inkjet printing for coatings on glass and plastics
  •     HIPIMS
  •     ALD
  •     OLED

After the conference, participants will have the opportunity one of the organising institutes or companies: TNO in Eindhoven, Holst Centre at the High Tech Campus, Eindhoven or the co-organiser Smit Ovens in Son.

About ICCG
ICCG started in 1996, focussing initially on glass substrates only. As coated plastics grew in importance as alternatives to coated glass products, the conference successfully extended its scope in 2006. Today, the application of coatings to glass and plastics has become extremely important for large-area and / or high-volume products. Over the years, ICCG has been a very good indicator of the key topics in the industry.
Important subjects like low-e glazing, photocatalytic coatings, electrochromic multilayer devices, transparent conducting oxides (TCOs) have been major highlights at earlier ICCG conferences and are still major topics on this year’s programme.

About Breda
Besides the stimulating technological and scientific program, the conference’s location should itself be very interesting for participants. Breda was the birthplace of Jan Ingenhousz, the scientist who first identified photosynthesis and was influential in the discovery of Brownian motion. Breda was voted the best city of the Netherlands in 2009 and is sure to leave an impression on the attendees of ICCG9.
