Atlanta Georgia (PRWEB) March 30, 2012
The 2012 Summer Olympic Games are rapidly approaching and this Olympic year, as any other in Atlanta, reminds the residents of the 1996 Summer Olympics: the glory and tragedy of Centennial Olympic Park, the tears springing to our eyes as Muhammad Ali lit the Olympic torch, the wonder of Michael Johnson as his short, choppy strides ate up the track to gold in the 200 and 400 meter races, and the surge of joy and patriotism we experienced as an injured Kerri Strug won the gold for the women’s gymnastics team by landing a dismount on a bad ankle.
During those Olympics, 197 flags representing each country competing in the Games flew over the Olympic Village. Those flags were provided by The Flag Company, based in Acworth, Georgia. For 30 days those flags proudly presided over the triumphs, disappoints, and plain fun that marked the Games. After the Games, The Flag Company took them down, carefully packed them up, and stored them in their warehouse. This Olympic year, these historical flags are being made available to the public.
The Flag Company introduces the original Olympic Village Flag Set: 197 country flags plus many IOC and ACOG flags. Only one such set exists in the world. “This is a unique opportunity for a collector,” said Mike Lawrence, Vice-President of The Flag Company. “These are the very flags that flew over the Olympic Village and were seen by billions in the TV audience. They are in excellent condition for either a private collection or for a museum. It may be a cliché, but this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own a piece of Olympic history.”
