Startup Weekend, an intense 54-hour event that focuses on building a web or mobile application, will take place for the fifth time in Kansas City on April 13-15, 2012 at Union Station.

Founded in Boulder, Colorado in 2007, Startup Weekend is an organization that puts on 54-hour weekend events during which groups of developers, business managers, startup enthusiasts, marketing gurus, graphic designers and others pitch ideas for new startup companies, form teams around those ideas and work to develop prototypes. In the past three years alone, Startup Weekend has grown into an organization with a global presence; its events span 120 cities and 35 countries.

Local Kansas City entrepreneurs Adam Coomes (Salt), Royce Haynes (Legal Sonar), Tina Peterson (Sprint) and Nate Allen (4 First Names) are organizing Startup Weekend Kansas City in order to help foster the growth of startups in the city that is becoming known as the most entrepreneurial in America.

"Startup Weekend is one of the most important events for Kansas City, especially as we gear up to become America's Most Entrepreneurial City,” says Adam Coomes, founder and CEO of Salt and organizer of Startup Weekend Kansas City. “Startup Weekend provides anyone, even those with day jobs, an opportunity to truly live in the startup world for a weekend, test an idea and bond with talented people. Real companies can come out of this weekend. There's no better time to explore your passions."

With sponsors such as the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, KCNext, Polsinelli Shughart, Adcuda and Think Big Partners, and as an event powered by Kansas City’s own Kauffman Foundation, Startup Weekend Kansas City is another stepping stone for the city’s entrepreneurial initiatives.
