Pearson Leads 2012 EdTech Digest Awards Program With 11 Finalists

Cutting-edge digital and mobile learning technology spanning preK-20 education recognized as “cool tools.”


Pearson, the world’s leading learning company, tops the list of finalists with 11 honors in the 2012 “Cool Tool” Awards from EdTech Digest. The finalists span preK-20 education and leverage the power of Pearson’s digital and mobile technologies to transform education, personalize learning, and ensure that all students are prepared for success in college and careers.

These latest honors fall closely on the heels of Pearson earning 11 finalist awards in the prestigious Software and Information Industry Association’s 2012 CODiE Awards. For the second consecutive year, Pearson also led the prestigious 29th Tech & Learning magazine Awards of Excellence competition, with honors for seven of its online and mobile learning tools and programs.

EdTech Digest is an e-zine featuring leaders in and around education dedicated to making a difference for future generations through the innovative use of technology. The EdTech Digest “Cool Tools” Awards Program recognizes transformative technology products and services in education.

Pearson finalist awards are as follows:

  • Pearson’s SuccessMaker Speed Games was honored as a finalist in three categories: New Products or Services, Academic Gaming Solutions, and E-learning Solutions. This fun and focused math practice app for iPad® puts a whole new spin on the old math drill, bringing basic fact practice in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division into the digital age, building automaticity in the recall of basic math facts in a fun and focused way.
  • Also a finalist in the New Product or Service category, Pearson’s Alleyoop speaks directly to teens looking to take control of their futures by better preparing themselves for college and beyond. An engaging, dynamic and different way to learn, Alleyoop provides tailored guidance, rich educational activities and game dynamics to help them succeed.
  • A finalist in the Other Cool Tools category is digits, Pearson’s all-digital, interactive, web-based middle school math program. Written entirely to the Common Core State Standards, digits integrates lesson planning, homework management, intervention and assessment, all within a user-friendly design that encourages class collaboration via interactive whiteboards.
  • Pearson’s WriteToLearn took finalist honors in the Assessment Solutions category. With WriteToLearn, students practice essay writing and summarization skills, and their efforts are measured by Pearson’s state-of-the-art Knowledge Analysis Technologies™ engine, a unique automated assessment technology that evaluates the meaning of text, not just grammatical correctness or spelling.
  • A finalist in the Collaboration Solution category, Pearson’s EQUELLA is a digital repository that provides one system to create, manage and house an institution’s teaching and learning, research, media and library content. Faculty, instructional designers and academic technologists can easily search in one location for all of their learning content.
  • Finalists in the Digital Textbook category, Pearson’s iBook2 Textbooks for Algebra 1 and Geometry are interactive, touch-based versions of core Pearson titles published for a dynamic learning experience with self-assessment and iPad functionality. They feature enhanced visuals, interactivities, and self-quizzes powered by interactive touch functionality.
  • Also in the Digital Textbook category, Miller & Levine Biology iBook2 Textbook from Pearson took finalist honors. The world’s bestselling high school biology program leverages the power of mobile technology to make science come alive on the iPad. Working from stunning four-color interactive pages, students control their own experience – pinch, stretch, tap, and drag beautiful illustrations, animations, content, video and photos.
  • Pearson’s OpenClass was honored as a finalist in the Learning Management System category. A new kind of Learning Environment, OpenClass is a dynamic, scalable, fully cloud-based solution that stimulates social learning and the exchange of content, coursework, and ideas — all from one open, easy-to-use and completely free integrated platform.
  • In the Mobile Device Solution category, Pearson PowerSchool for Parents was honored as a finalist. This new free app revolutionizes the way that millions of busy parents stay in touch with their children’s lives at school, with real-time access to their children’s attendance, grades, assignments, scores and much more.
