The Tennessee car crash lawyers at the law firm of Michael D. Ponce & Associates, a law firm that provides representation for clients who have been wrongfully injured in auto accidents and other types of crashes, hereby alerts the public of the increased focus by law enforcement personnel on enforcing Tennessee’s ‘Move-Over Law’ so that safety can be improved on the roads around the state and the number of Tennessee auto accidents can be reduced. This law appears in the Tennessee statutes at T.C.A. 55-8-132.

Specifically, police in Chattanooga conducted what is known as a ‘saturation’ on Friday, March 16 to enforce several different laws, with the move-over law prominent among them. The results of that saturation effort were that a total of 67 citations were issued in the city based on a violation of this law during that day alone. In addition, the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office recently announced that it would continue with this enforcement effort for an unspecified period of time, according to a report released by WRCB TV in Chattanooga.

The ‘Move-Over Law’ in Tennessee states that motorists who encounter parked emergency vehicles or other work-related vehicles are required to move into a lane that is not immediately next to such a parked vehicle along the side of the road. If it is not possible to safely change lanes, motorists are then required to reduce their speeds and to proceed with extreme caution.
According to the Sheriff of Hamilton County, Officer Jim Hammond, "Each year in Tennessee, along with law enforcement officers, more than 100 construction workers, wrecker operators and utility workers are killed by such vehicle crashers on the side of the road.” This statement appeared in the same report issued by WRCB.

The Tennessee car accident lawyers at Michael D. Ponce & Associates hereby ask motorists in Tennessee to obey all traffic laws that govern their situations and to drive safely.
