Leaders in the field of youth fitness will be descending on the Brown Hotel in Louisville for a two day event starting Friday. The event, scheduled for this Friday (March 30th), will mark the 4th Annual Summit of the International Youth Conditioning Association.
The IYCA focuses its efforts on improving coaches in the fields of youth fitness, youth conditioning, and youth athletic development. The organization unites youth fitness professionals to set forth guidelines for best practices in long-term young athlete development.
The 4th Annual IYCA Summit brings together some of the leading experts in the field of youth fitness to work with and teach all levels of coaches and trainers.
“The IYCA’s number one commitment is to improving the ways young athletes are developed,” said IYCA co-founder Pat Rigsby. “The focus of these live events is putting together a system so coaches can safely and effectively develop their athletes.”
This year’s lineup includes youth fitness specialists who have experience training NCAA Champions, Olympians, and professional athletes. Divided into 12 sessions, a different expert will teach distinct aspects of developing young athletes.
These sessions range include topics like mobility, power, and strength training, as well as very specific topics like nutrition for young athletes, kettlebell training, and resistance band training.
“These annual events are a way to get coaches at all levels of sports in the same room with some of the world’s elite trainers.” Rigsby continued, “It’s a lot of fun learning the best ways to develop young athletes.”
As youth athletics get more specialized, the IYCA promotes a model of long-term athlete development. As Pat Rigsby describes, “This event is not about quick fixes and unrealistic gains. The IYCA is about giving people the tools to become successful coaches of young athletes.”
The 4th Annual IYCA Summit is open to coaches and trainers of all levels of youth athletics. Rigsby notes that “many of the trainers and coaches who come to the summit arrive with little knowledge about youth training.”
Given the in-depth nature of the event, those same trainers are unlikely to leave without having first accumulated a great deal of knowledge about the most up to date methods for training young athletes.
One concern that arises when kids train with inexperienced trainers is that kids can get injured when performing exercises incorrectly. “Because youth fitness means injury prevention,” Rigsby said, “we make sure to cover injury prevention and rehab at the IYCA Summit.”
“The trainers attending the summit are sure to leave with all the information they need to get started down the path to becoming a great trainer,” Rigsby concluded. “With the elite trainers we have teaching modules, it would be impossible not to have that success rub off on you.”
Such trainers include resistance band training expert Dave Schmitz and Indianapolis Fitness and Sports Training co-owner Bill Hartman.
The IYCA Summit begins March 30th.
