YogiPlay’s mission is to revolutionize how families learn and play on mobile devices

Today, YogiPlay announces an initial investment of $1.0 million in seed funding in an oversubscribed financing round together with the pending release of its innovative mobile application platform for families.

Coming out of stealth mode and preparing for a consumer launch in Q2 of this year, YogiPlay has designed its innovative and personalized mobile apps platform specifically for families with children ages 3 to 8 years old. YogiPlay is easy to use and provides parents with meaningful insight into their children’s activities, allowing parents to turn their smart-phones and tablets into true learning devices.

YogiPlay was started by Cedric and Michal Sellin. As parents of three young children, Cedric and Michal found the discovery process for educational mobile apps overwhelming and confusing. “We struggled to find the right apps for our own kids, and saw a need for a truly personalized app curation system that would empower parents to choose the right kind of apps for their kids’ needs and interests.” said Cedric.

Parents are interested in a system that makes mobile apps’ discovery easier, and more insightful, but also encourages a connection between parents and their children’s mobile experience. Cedric and Michal are uniquely positioned to make this vision a reality. In addition to both being engineering graduates of Stanford University, Cedric was a founding team member of Aruba Wireless Networks, and Michal was one of the first engineers at Google where she focused on improving search quality, and implemented search in right to left languages as well as the early versions of GTalk. Under their leadership, Cedric and Michal brought together a team at YogiPlay comprised of parents, educators and engineers with experience at LeapFrog, Sony Network Entertainment, Imagini, Landor, GapKids and Industrious Kid.

Cedric and Michal selected as YogiPlay’s initial investors DN Capital, whose track record includes helping bring mobile application businesses like Shazam to hundreds of millions of consumers, and Richmond Park Partners.

DN Capital Managing Partner Steve Schlenker commented, “We looked at many companies targeting mobile education, but they do not have the technical expertise nor the personal connection to the space Cedric and Michal have. Given our prior experience with some of the most successful mobile application companies yet created, we felt this team had the right DNA to create the next leader in mobile child experience.”

Richmond Park Partners’ Nina Pustilnik, who spearheads digital media investments for the Firm, and brings a wealth of entertainment and digital media experience from Warner Bros and Sony Pictures, said: “In a market where the amount of engaging educational content for kids is exploding, YogiPlay provides intelligent and personalized curation to the parent and developer communities alike. YogiPlay will be a great playground for kids!”

The Company will soon announce partnerships with leading learning app developers for iOS and Android apps. Look for the exciting consumer launch of YogiPlay in Q2 2012.
