London, United Kingdom (PRWEB UK) 29 March 2012
With the blossom of spring approaching, the promise of warmer weather and sunnier skies has seemed to have re-energised the UK Jobs Market. According to job site, reed.co.uk, employment opportunities across the UK rose sharply in February, up 17 Index points compared with figures published in January.
The Reed Job Index, which tracks the number of new job opportunities created on a monthly basis across varying industry sectors, rose to an impressive 140 Index points- a record high since the tracker was established in 2009.
Eleven different job sectors from all areas of the private sector managed record-high Index totals, with Engineering and construction jobs in particular leading the strong resurgence.
reed.co.uk report that the increased number of new Engineering jobs created in February meant that the sectors Index points total rose by 47 points- reaching 218 points. Similarly, the Index tracker recorded a 30 point increase in Construction jobs; enabling the sector to reach a record 140 points.
The Index’s rise cannot be solely attributed to industrial sector-type jobs. Encouragingly the number of Retail jobs being created also seems to be on the rise. After a sizeable slump in the number of retail jobs created throughout December last year- a time whereby retailers traditionally take on more staff in order to cope with the busy Christmas shopping period- the sector has since responded well, rising to 139 index points in February.
reed.co.uk suggests the rise of internet shopping (ecommerce) is slowly creating newer jobs in retail, as more and more retailers begin to invest in their online services.
