Radiation safety firm Dade Moeller announces that its Vice President of Training Services, Ray Johnson, has been installed as the President-Elect of the American Academy of Health Physics (AAHP), the organization overseeing the program that qualifies candidates for certification. This is a three-year term, during which he will serve one year each as President-Elect, President, and Past-President.
In 1985, Johnson founded a radiation safety consulting and training company in Gaithersburg, MD., which was acquired by Dade Moeller in 2007 and re-named in 2011 as the Dade Moeller Training Academy. Since its founding, the Academy has provided instruction to more than 3,000 Radiation Safety Officers, as well as consulting on radiation safety, nuclear gauges, industrial x-ray, and radiation risk communication.
Johnson has been involved with radiation safety programs since 1963 when he began working as a Commissioned Officer in the U.S. Public Health Service at its Northeastern Radiological Health Laboratory in Winchester, MA. In 1970, he was assigned to the Environmental Protection Agency, Office of Radiation Programs, in Washington, D.C., where he served as Chief of the Radiation Surveillance Branch for 15 years. In addition to his work at Dade Moeller, he directs the Radiation Safety Counseling Institute in Maryland.
Johnson has been an active member and leader of several professional organizations, including the AAHP, the Health Physics Society, and the American Industrial Hygiene Association and has earned more than 30 awards from professional societies.
