New Website Helps People Find People

Finding people on the internet has become easier through the extensive use of social networks when a full name is known but what if only a partial name is remembered? The new web app uencounter.me offers potential by allowing users to search for individuals based on the location of their last encounter.

Each month, hundreds of thousands of people turn to the internet to find people. Anyone looking to reconnect with an old co-worker, friend, classmate, or neighbor, when no name or only a first name is remembered will want to use.uencounter.me because everything is based on location.

The uses for a geo-location site such as uencounter.me are practically endless! Recently a user posted a message of gratitude (called an Encountergram), which was serendipitously delivered when the intended recipient searched their name on the internet. They contacted the uencounter.me Team to ask if it was “for real” and was delighted to remember the details of helping the university student that was referenced and who originally posted the message. In another example, a Verizon customer service rep was acknowledged with an Encountergram by a uencounter.me user. Uencounter.me consistently utilizes Social Networking sites to broadcast posted messages and when this one was tweeted with the hash tag #Verizon, management was notified and agreed to pass the commendation along to both the employee and his supervisor.

Uencounter.me is now poised to publically announce its presence in the geo-social networking arena. The concept of uencounter.me was born in March of 2011 when CEO, Leslyn Kantner thought it would be fascinating to see her life represented by pins on a map and compare it to that of her friends in an effort to discover where their lives had crossed. That conversation led to long discussions about remembering old friends, neighbors, and schoolmates whose complete names couldn’t be remembered; wondering where they were now and appreciating the impact or contribution they made to her life.

Kantner immediately sought advice from a website developer and enlisted help of a family friend and a brother to build the site. The uencounter.me team has a collective passion to raise awareness of and create a global platform for the expression of gratitude. The bootstrapped site was launched without fanfare in November, 2011 and has steadily been accumulating users.

Uencounter.me is a virtual pin map that is social. Born from an innate curiosity of the interwoven universe in which we reside; the serendipitous nature of our lives, a life time of memories, and a desire to see it in a visual format.
