Mirabel 2012 Hope for the Cause

Mirabel, the award-winning community with a member-owned and controlled private club in North Scottsdale, had residents, members and friends come together over eight days in March to raise awareness and important funds for cancer research through the 4th annual Hope For The Cause event. The event brought in a total donation of $196,000 for the cause.

What began in 2009 as a small golf event and evening reception to raise money for breast cancer research with a few dozen ladies has evolved to a week-long series of events the entire community embraces to raise awareness and funds for all types of cancer. Money raised by the Hope For The Cause event is donated directly to the Clinical Trials Program at Scottsdale Healthcare Research Institute headed by Dr. Daniel Von Hoff.

“With this year’s donation of $196,000, the Mirabel community is so proud to support cancer research at a world class facility right in our own backyard,” said Ruth Evans, Co-Chair of this year’s event. “Having participated in the event through the years, it is wonderful to see the Mirabel community rally together for a cause important to so many of us.”

A kick-off celebration was held on Wednesday, February 29 with the Women’s Bridge Event and Luncheon with Invited Guests. Starting off the eight days of events in March, a 5k fun run/walk throughout the community was held Saturday, March 3rd. Finishing in first place for the women was member Elyse Newton. Mirabel controller Dan Sengstock took first place in the men’s division. The events continued Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday with non-competitive ladies golf and a shotgun tournament for the men. The men’s event was won by member Stewart Morick.

Mirabel’s Desert Lodge Clubhouse was the setting for the Hope For The Cause evening wine reception and silent auction Saturday, March 10th with 160 members and guests celebrating the cause. Guests bid on an array of silent auction items from Apple products courtesy of Best Buy to the most sought after item of the evening – a twenty person outing on Bartlett Lake with a catered gourmet barbeque meal by Mirabel executive chef Josh Fuehr, who became a cancer survivor at age 29. This outing proved so popular it was offered and sold twice.

Over the past four years, Mirabel members have raised nearly $500,000 for the Scottsdale Healthcare Research Institute and are pleased to be able to support important cancer research that benefits the greater Phoenix community as well as cancer research around the country.
