Dr. Andrew J. Levi and Park Avenue Fertility clinic proudly utilize state-of-the art technology for 24-chromosome diagnostics to help reduce the risk of miscarriages by identifying a chromosomally normal embryo suitable for In Vitro Fertilization.

A new technology currently available through Park Avenue Fertility is used to improve pregnancy and live birth rates when combined with IVF (In Vitro Fertilization).

The risk of miscarriage increases with a woman’s age, with the majortity of losses caused by chromosomal abnormalities. This is especially true for infertility patients undergoing IVF. One way to improve the chances for a successful pregnancy is to test the embryo for all of its possible 24 chromosomes prior to transfer. In an effort to provide the most advanced service to Connecticut patients, Dr. Andrew J. Levi MD and his Park Avenue Fertility clinic are happy to announce the arrival of aCGH (Array Comparative Genome Hybridization). aCGH allows for a complete evaluation of chromosomal composition in an embryo.

A technology for pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) has been traditionally used to select embryos suitable for transfer. FISH (fluorescence in-situ hybridization) includes the analysis of up to 12 chromosomes in an embryonic cell, which is a half of all existing chromosomes. Now it has been taken even further. The advanced aCGH testing allows for evaluation of all 24 chromosomes, thus significantly improving the accuracy of the results.

This new technology currently available through Dr. Levi’s clinic is deemed to be superior to other previously existing diagnostics. In addition to detecting a euploid (chromosomally normal embryo), aCGH is instrumental in finding some other common chromosomal problems, like translocations and inversions. There is a reason to believe that aCGH gives hope for a higher success rate in IVF pregnancies.
