“WikiGrow's purpose is to eliminate the hassle of research and uncertainty of home gardening,” said Peter Zabelin, founder and executive director of LocalGrow.

To kick off National Garden Month, LocalGrow has launched its flagship platform, WikiGrow, which provides an easy-to-understand outline of information to guide new local gardeners through the process of cultivating a successful harvest.
LocalGrow is a San Francisco-based independent organization that is committed to creating an agriculturally-informed local community, and is introducing WikiGrow as the first step in doing so during a pivotal time for local food growers.
“We are using technology and the Internet to present information in a new way, so even the most novice gardener can feel confident in starting a garden,” said Peter Zabelin, founder and executive director of LocalGrow. “WikiGrow's purpose is to eliminate the hassle of research and uncertainty of home gardening, while providing families with a significantly less expensive way to eat healthy fresh produce and create a healthy educational family environment.”
WikiGrow is a platform for the community to not only learn how to grow a garden, but it is also a starting point for local farmers to share some of their experience and expertise with novice gardeners in the community, and connect with like-minded consumers.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, around 15 percent of the world's food is now grown in urban areas. WikiGrow is designed to be easy to use through the individual webpages dedicated to providing instructional information on a number of crops. In addition to a categorized layout of growing instructions, the WikiGrow pages include graphs and images to visually communicate the specific growing processes, such as recommended water, sun, soil and care level needed.
