Pender's Music Co. invites French horn players of all levels and ages to help set a Guinness World Record for the Largest French Horn Ensemble. The event, coined One Thousand Horns, is scheduled for Saturday, May 19th on the University of North Texas (Denton) Campus.

Pender’s Music Company, one of the nation's largest sheet music providers, invites French horn players of all ages and skill levels to help in an attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the Largest French Horn Ensemble to Perform at One Time and Place. Dubbed “One Thousand Horns”, the fifteen minute concert is scheduled on Long Horn Day, the last day of the IHS Workshop/Symposium, which is being hosted by the University of North Texas. It will feature the premier performance of Sterling Proctor's "Fanfare for a Thousand," as well as music by Rossini, Beethoven and Strauss.

Long Horn Day is being held in conjunction with the annual workshop which consists of performances, lectures, and demonstrations led by notable horn musicians and contemporaries. 2012 featured artists include world renowned Australian-born French horn player Barry Tuckwell, commonly referred to in many music circles as the God of Horn, and horn virtuoso Tsun Tak Cheung from Hong Kong, who now works in Germany. Many other contributing artists from universities and symphonies all over the country are scheduled to appear, as well as several horn ensembles, choirs, and much more, including UNT’s own multi-Grammy nominated jazz ensemble, the One O'Clock Lab Band, directed by Steve Wiest.

Highlights of Long Horn Day include the Texas College and High School Horn Quartet Competitions, as well as, demonstrations and rehearsals by the Alphorn Festpiel, led by Dr. Peggy DeMers, Associate Professor of Horn at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX. Jasper Rees, London-based journalist and author of the book "A Devil to Play: One Man's Year-Long Quest to Master the Orchestra's Most Difficult Instrument," is set to be at the One Thousand Horns record-breaking performance attempt, to serve as a Guinness witness. Television and other media news crews have been notified, so that the event can be documented.

To participate, performers and spectators alike must first register. There is a Special Event Registration price of $10.00 for both non-workshop attendees and those attending Long Horn Day only.
