JG Tax Group’s Jeffrey Galante speaks out regarding TaxMasters’ bankruptcy and what’s next for their clients.

“With TaxMasters’ recent bankruptcy being reported in all of the major television and print media, I have no doubt that there are literally thousands of TaxMasters’ clients who are now left without help, and may be at the mercy of the IRS"

“With TaxMasters’ recent bankruptcy being reported in all of the major television and print media, I have no doubt that there are literally thousands of TaxMasters’ clients who are now left without help and may be at the mercy of the IRS,” says Jeffrey Galante, founder of JG Tax Group. In a recent article by Ray Martin in CBS Money Watch, published on March 20, 2012, Martin said that “TaxMasters, the Houston, Texas-based company that held itself out to provide services to settle taxpayers' debts for less and recover property seized by the IRS, has filed for bankruptcy. According to reports, the company filed for Chapter 11, listing assets of less than $5,000 and up to 5,000 creditors after it failed to secure capital funding.”

Martin continued by saying that “the firm, famous for its national advertising campaign, is also being sued by the State of Texas for violating the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act [State of Texas vs. TaxMasters, Inc., District Court of Travis County Texas; Cause No. D-1-GV-10-000486]. Texas alleges that TaxMasters TV commercials encourage people to call for a free consultation with a tax specialist, but the calls are answered by salespeople unqualified to provide tax advice. They also allege TaxMasters delays providing its services until it collects all of its fees, even if it causes the taxpayer to miss important IRS deadlines.”

Galante cautions that “one thing you never want to do is miss an IRS deadline. You can lose your legal right to protest the government’s actions. TaxMasters’clients need to immediately seek the help of a qualified firm of lawyers, CPA’s and/or Enrolled Agents, who are licensed to practice before the IRS. With the possibility of an impending IRS deadline that can’t be missed, clients need to act fast and get the help of a professional, dedicated tax representative.”

“We’ve been warning the public for years about Taxmasters’ trade practices. We have helped several former TaxMasters’ clients resolve their IRS problems. While doing so, I was dismayed to hear the horror stories that these clients would relate about how the IRS levied their bank account or wages, even after they signed up with TaxMasters,” says Galante.

“Taxmasters even tried to stop JG Tax Group from warning the public about TaxMasters’ deceptive trade practices by filing a lawsuit against JG Tax Group [TaxMasters, Inc. d/b/a TaxMasters vs. Galante Group Corp, d/b/a JG Tax Group.; District Court for the Southern District of Texas; Civil Action No. 4:10-CV-2480]."
