"We decided that, despite the extra work it would create for our team, we would put the interests of our users first and make the database searchable by either system."

LeadFerret.com users can now do more specific industry searches using NAICS codes. Previously users were only able to search industries by SICs (Standard Industry Codes). The problem is that SICs have become outdated, and many specific industries, especially those associated with new technologies, are not easily searchable using SICs. NAICS (North American Industry Classification System) codes were developed specifically to deal with the short comings of the SIC system.
For example, when the SIC system was created, the software industry was just in its infancy, so only a couple SICs can be found for software. However, the NAIC system was created in the software era, so there are at least 10 different NAICS codes that can be used to sub-categorize the software industry.
LeadFerret users can now search using either industry coding system, and can find the best codes for their industry search using SIC or NAICS keyword search tools available on this site.
"We had several internal debates about whether to classify companies by SICs or NAICS codes. NAICS Codes are far superior in my opinion, but many companies still use SICs. So, we decided that, despite the extra work it would create for our team, we would put the interests of our users first and make the database searchable by either system." Says LeadFerret Co-Founder Forest Cassidy.
