Wheel & Sprocket, the premier chain of Metro Milwaukee bicycle shops, is helping cyclists plan their summers by bringing together cycling groups, teams and clubs at the 28th Annual Bike Expo April 5-8 at the Wisconsin State Fair Park.

The Expo will draw a crowd of 11,000 cyclists, host dozens of cycling organizations from around the Midwest, and feature thousands of bike products and over 2,000 assembled bikes for sale. It also includes 50 free cycling seminars covering topics that include bike commuting, safety and skills and more.

Dana Johnson, an outdoor tour guide and concierge and the owner of Open Leaf Excursions, will show everyone how to overcome a punctured tire in her seminar titled “Fix a Flat.” Johnson is a native Wisconsinite whose passions include mountain biking, whitewater kayaking, cross-country skiing, reading and writing. Stop by Johnson’s booth and stick around for her clinics.

The Bike Federation of Wisconsin (aka the Bike Fed of WI), Wisconsin’s cycling advocacy organization, will present a host of bicycle safety seminars, including: Teaching Your Child to Be a Safe Cyclist, Safe Routes to School, Commuting by Bike, and Share and Be Aware. Bike Federation of Wisconsin seminars are presented by nationally certified bicycle safety instructors.

The Bike Fed of WI sponsors many programs and campaigns, including bike camps, Bike to Work Week, and the Share and Be Aware program. The Milwaukee bike organization also leads Wisconsin’s Safe Route to School Network, engages in legislative action and local advocacy, and assists with bicycle and pedestrian planning.

Upon request, the Bike Fed offers Bike Valet services for large events. Over the past fifteen years, the Bike Fed of WI has published the Ride Guide. It is Wisconsin’s only comprehensive cycling guide and it is free to the public. This annual publication highlights bicycle friendly areas, businesses and destinations. Guests are encouraged to pick up a copy of the 2012 Ride Guide at the Bike Fed of WI booth at the Bike Expo Sale.
