The American Statistical Association (ASA), the nation's preeminent professional statistical society, will participate in a two-day expo at the Washington Convention Center April 28-29 as part of the second USA Science & Engineering Festival, the nation’s largest celebration of science and engineering. ASA is an official partner of this year’s festival and was a partner in the 2010 event as well.

Become a data detective at the ASA booth
The ASA booth will enable attendees to experience statistical discovery through technology and hands-on statistical problem-solving. A variety of activities will allow people to collect and analyze data to solve real-world problems using statistics. There also will be information about statistics education resources and careers in statistics.

“One focus of the festival is to demonstrate to students and their families the many exciting career opportunities available with the best job prospects for the future in the science, technology, engineering and math fields,” said Rebecca Nichols, ASA director of education. “ASA is proud to be a festival sponsor and participant for the second time and to be able to share with future members of the workforce the many exciting opportunities available in the field of statistics.”

The festival is open to the public, and high school and college students are particularly encouraged to attend. The USA Science & Engineering Festival is the country’s only national science festival and was developed to increase public awareness of the importance of science and to encourage youth to pursue careers in science and engineering by celebrating science in much the same way as we celebrate Hollywood celebrities, professional athletes and pop stars.

ASA will join more than 500 of the nation’s leading science and engineering organizations, colleges and universities, corporations, federal agencies, museums and science centers, and professional associations and societies. Festival activities all are free. Visit the official festival website -- http://www.usasciencefestival.org – for the schedule of all exhibit and stage shows and to download a map of the expo grounds.
