We have a desire to help our community any way we can. When something tragic like this happens, the first thing we do as a church is ask ‘What can we do to help people?

As a member of the Dallas and Tarrant County Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD), Grapevine-based Fellowship Church with Pastor Ed Young is on high-alert and prepared to send an army of volunteers, supplies and aid to the victims of the recent tornadoes in the Dallas and Fort Worth areas.

With a history of working closely with aid organizations such as Red Cross and World First Ministries, Fellowship Church’s seasoned and expert “rapid response team” is ready at a moment’s notice to move in to help.

Fellowship’s founding Pastor Ed Young says, “We have a desire to help our community any way we can. When something tragic like this happens, the first thing we do as a church is ask ‘What can we do to help people?’ In response to what happened today, our team is ready and able to bring healing to these areas.”

Fellowship Church’s volunteer response team is made up of 95 core volunteers, many of whom have been professionally trained in rescue services. Comprised of medical personnel, construction experts, as well as food preparation and service workers, the team responded to storms that have hit areas such as New Orleans, Galveston and Joplin, MO.

In 2008, Fellowship Church partnered with Beck Construction to help rebuild Valley Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Worth after their building was destroyed by a tornado. Now, Fellowship is prepared to step in and provide as much help as possible to rebuild the lives of today’s victims as well.

Within minutes of hearing the news of the tornadoes, the volunteer team had been contacted and was on standby. Because simply sending in a team without knowledge of other organizations can actually cause more harm than good, Fellowship has developed relationships with those other aid organizations and is in constant communication to respond the moment they get the call.
