Though modern science has produced an abundance of advanced medical technology to help people in need, there is no substitute for blood. Nationwide Title Clearing (NTC), which is a leading service provider to the mortgage and financial industry, is committed to literally giving back to the community through blood drives that benefit Florida Blood Services.

NTC has hosted several blood drives through FBS. The most recent event was held on March 23 when over 45 NTC employees participated and 49 units were collected throughout the workday.

In the Tampa Bay area, 38 hospitals and 80 ambulatory care centers in Pasco, Pinellas, Hillsborough, and Manatee counties depend on FBS for whole blood, and blood products and services. In addition to collecting blood, FBS is a testing resource for 30 blood centers and medical facilities from Maine to Puerto Rico. Every blood sample that these blood centers send or that FBS collects is subjected to more than 12 hours of screening and testing before it is released for patient use.

The organization collects more than 750 pints of blood every day. According to Florida Blood Services, almost 80 percent of the blood it collects is donated on their bloodmobiles, portable units and express units, which is why blood drives like those held by NTC are important.

“We are committed to improving our industry, but we also believe it is crucial to help the community where we are located, and these blood drives are part of our focus on supporting the people who live nearby,” said Erika Lance, who is senior vice president of NTC. “When you give blood, you are truly giving the gift of life, and we encourage our employees to take pride in the selfless act of donating.”

The March 23 blood drive was held at NTC’s headquarters in Palm Harbor, Florida. The company has held twice annual blood drives since 2010 one in each spring and fall.

The blood drives for Florida Blood Services represent a portion of what NTC does for the Tampa area. The company helps the community with annual clothing drives and toy drives during the holidays. NTC will also participate in the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Palm Harbor fund raising event this month.
