One sector that really can make the most of the opportunities during the Olympic games is the Marquee hire industry. The London Olympics are using the most temporary structures than any games before, due to the new focus on sustainability and legacy. What's more, many other events are happening around the UK, all requiring the hire of temporary structures and fittings.
The opportunities are out there, it is just a case of making contact with councils and businesses to see if they have anything planned during the games. They might not have thought of anything yet, but contacting them could spark an idea to maximise the fact that the UK will be in the spotlight during the games, which may make them feel that an outdoor event is a great way to celebrate and also promote themselves during this momentous period.
Gary Bennett – Owner of Marquee hire Guide has explained “One way that this opportunity can be utilised is by speaking to local councils and seeing what they are arranging for the Olympic events in their area.” He also adds “They may already have a supplier they are going to use – but by making contact in this way the event company may be sowing a seed that hadn't already been thought of – which could lead to a potentially lucrative hire”.
On top of the official games there will be 22 cities across the UK including Bristol, Manchester, Belfast, Edinburgh and Norwich with big screens to watch the events live. But we all know that English weather is not always on side for watching events outdoors so what a better opportunity to hire a marquee with a mobile bar, portable toilets and a generator. Further highlighting how 2012 is creating many opportunities for the event hire industry .
Furthermore there will be the chance for smaller towns and villages to host their own unofficial “Live Sites” giving them an opportunity to celebrate the Olympics and showcase their communities during this time. Therefore they may require temporary equipment from event hire companies local to them. It goes to show just how endless the opportunities are for event hire companies throughout 2012.
But beware what with all these extra events happening throughout the UK in 2012, there is only so much to go round. Make sure to check the availability of other vital aspects needed with a temporary venue such as toilets. It is said that Glastonbury Festival is taking a break during 2012 due to the lack of portable toilets available to hire because so many are allocated for the Olympic games, not to mention the increase of smaller festivals throughout the UK during the summer.
So what does 2012 mean to the event hire industry? There is certainly the chance to gain more business off the back of the Olympics, however it is worth making sure that if you get a booking that the whole event is not overshadowed by the fact that it is missing some of the vital components such as toilets and electric.
