Big4.com, the premier social networking forum for professionals and alumni of Accenture, Andersen, BearingPoint, Capgemini, Deloitte, Ernst & Young, KPMG and PricewaterhouseCoopers, PwC reports on the first trainees graduating from a new apprenticeship scheme to support former homeless people in London. Launched in September, the partnership is led by professional services firm PwC, with Brigade bar and bistro at its heart.

Big4.com reports the eleven trainees spent six months training in Southwark College as part of the United Kitchen Apprentices programme run by social entrepreneur Simon Boyle's Beyond Food Foundation and mentored by PwC employees. Prime Minister, David Cameron MP visited recently taking part in a bakery lesson.

“It was a long road to get the Fire Station business centre project delivered, but to see the impact on the trainees, in such a short space of time, has made every second worthwhile,” said Paul Cleal, partner, PwC. “Brigade is the beating heart of the Fire Station project to support social enterprise, and offers a sustainable opportunity for people to transform their lives. It's a powerful example of social enterprise in action."

The group completed an NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Professional Cookery, six months work experience, attended CV and Interview workshops and completed work trials. The majority are now in full time employment at venues including the Hilton London Bridge, Carluccio's, and Rhinefield House Hotel, New Forest.
