Ties-Necktie.com, a prominent online tie retailer just published a list of the Worst-Dressed American Senators in Congress for 2012. The list highlights three individuals in particular; Wyoming republican senator John Barrasso, Connecticut independent senator Joe Lieberman and Vermont independent senator Bernie Sanders.

“It’s no secret that there are some exceptionally well-dressed senators on the political landscape,” says Ties-necktie founder Hendrik Pohl,” but this isn’t to say that congress is fashion-forward as a whole. We wanted to point out just a few of the biggest offenders; there are plenty of others that could’ve made the list.”

Each politician on Ties-Necktie.com’s list is criticized on their fashion sense for different reasons. Wyoming’s John Barrasso, for example, is called out for his penchant for wearing red ties almost every time he’s seen in the public eye, while CT’s Joe Lieberman is highlighted for wearing suits that are too broad for his shoulders and mens ties that are far too tight. Finally, Bernie Sanders’ scraggly, “just rolled out of bed” appearance is brought to attention.

Pohl is quick to make clear the fact the “worst-dressed” list aims not to offend anyone outright, but rather inject some humor into an otherwise bleak political landscape.

“With so much negativity running through American politics today, it’s difficult to find anything humorous about what’s going on,” says Pohl. “We’re not trying to hurt anyone’s feelings with this list, but instead to point out the fact that these are people too and they aren’t perfect. There’s humor in everything if you look at it from the right angle.”

Ties-Necktie is primarily an online tie retailer, although the company makes it a point to publish articles that focus heavily on modern men’s fashion. Among pieces on how to properly tie a tie or fold a pocket square, the website is home to a great deal of other “best-dressed” and “worst-dressed” lists, including an article published on February 20th that highlights the best and worst-dressed GOP candidates that can be viewed at Ties-Necktie's column titled: Fashion & Politics.

“Our customers don’t just come to our website to buy ties;” says Pohl,” they check back regularly because of the men’s fashion content that we publish. We like to strike a healthy balance between informative and entertaining whenever possible. After all, the last word we want someone to use in order to describe our website is “dry,” which is far off from our company’s image.”
