I was one of those diabetics who had a skeleton in the closet – repeated use of the same lancet.

Diabetics know very well the supplies needed to test blood sugars…lancets, test strips, and a reliable meter.
Yet, when insurance or jobs are no longer available to pay for these supplies, many are left to beg and borrow from friends or physicians just to manage their disease. And when it comes to lancets – the first tool used in measuring blood glucose – there are diabetics who discretely re-use them beyond the first, second or even third puncture to avoid purchasing a new box.
Yvonne Sidell, CEO of YeS Diabetics and a twelve-year veteran of Type II diabetes, learned a painful lesson about the re-use of lancets when she suffered extensive tissue damage on her fingers and arms. “When funds became limited during the turn of the economy, there was no way to avoid using the same lancet over again to test for insulin I needed four times a day. As the box starts getting low, you never change out that one lancet no matter how bad it hurts.”
Although Sidell found resources who offered free lancets, she consistently had to complete lengthy questionnaires just to get a 10-pack sample, which took up to three weeks to receive in the mail. “What I really needed was the pharmacy to give me a new box to last the month. No pharmacist was willing to be that generous.”
With a mission in mind and some help from her friends, who she inspired to donate funds to build an inventory, Sidell created an online resource to provide exactly what she searched for – free lancets to any diabetic who needs them.
LancetRx™ (http://www.lancetrx.com) is a new service that provides members 100 lancets every month, for free. Visitors who join the website can choose from trusted brands or quality generic types, and are given a choice of membership cards that also measure finger warmth prior to lancet testing for that painless stick. According to Sidell, this combination is integral to keep diabetics on track with their health management.
“Lancets are a vital component to help monitor this disease, and LancetRx™ bridges diabetics to these lancets so they can continue to monitor this disease.”
