SpoonerSpot (, a new social networking platform that lets users “put their life on the map” is combining several elements from other popular web based platforms, bringing together a one stop solution for marketers and social networkers who often try to link the physical world with the virtual. Currently in beta development by the team at CitySpoon Inc., SpoonerSpot uses a familiar geographic platform to bring together a completely new kind of social networking concept. Unlike other social networking platforms, which use links to exterior websites to display maps and location information, SpoonerSpot brings together an interactive geographic platform that lets users not only share information about their world, a la traditional social networking, but also share geographic information within the same social networking space. This concept allows every type of user, from the casual individual to the marketing arm of large corporations, to interact completely within the SpoonerSpot platform while still bridging the gap between the virtual social networking community and the physical brick and mortar world.

Social networking sites traditionally bring users together in a manner that makes it easy to share information between one user and another. While many successful sites in this industry have brought together a variety of tools to increase product awareness, the most prevalent tool for displaying physical (geographic) information is to link to a third party website; either the company’s own contact/location page or a link to one of many popular map based websites. Successful marketers know, though, that the most successful means of sharing information through a social networking platform is to keep user interaction in as few pages as possible, presenting a challenge for marketers who want to leverage their social networking community in the brick and mortar world.

SpoonerSpot presents a solution to the above challenge by combining social networking with an interactive geographic platform. With SpoonerSpot, Spooners (SpoonerSpot users) can simply click on any point throughout the world, and instantly that Spot, and any information the Spooner wishes to share within that Spot, are visible to that Spooner’s followers. Rather than taking users through several steps involving multiple page loads, the map and its related content are the information being shared through CitySpoon’s new social networking site. This method allows for the content and the platform to work in conjunction, allowing users to share information similar to other social networking platforms, while clearly stating physical address and location information so the user may take the information and use it in the brick and mortar business world.

SpoonerSpot is still in development, and CitySpoon’s team is looking forward to rolling out several enhancements based on user feedback throughout the second quarter of 2012. While in its current beta phase SpoonerSpot’s core functionalities and services are available, and new users are encouraged to sign up immediately to take part in the beta testing phase. CitySpoon will also be offering additional, customizable features for SpoonerSpot that savvy marketers will be able to use to run significantly interactive campaigns, and the company looks forward to rolling out these and many more features as the site moves closer to its official launch.
