Hearthstone’s custom log home for the Pfendler family in Dandridge, TN was selected as Home of the Year, 2012 by Log Home Living Magazine. The award-winning 4,100 sq. ft. hand hewn log home was built in only 7 months and sits on 13 acres of wooded shoreline in Tennessee. The house is from Hearthstone’s Bob Timberlake collection, utilizing eastern white pine square logs.

While 2-3 homes are featured in each issue, Log Home Living dedicates an annual issue to the very best homes of the year. The Pfendler home, originally featured in October, 2011, is on the cover of the Best Homes of 2012 Special Edition issue. According to Editor-in-Chief Roland Sweet, “Showmanship rarely trumps imagination, ingenuity, and, above all, recognition of the potential of logs.”

"Our design and engineering team can create a home to fit your site. You can provide your own plans, allow us to custom design, or select from the hundreds of standard plans in the Hearthstone portfolio,” says Steve Hall, manager of design, marketing, and systems for Hearthstone.

Sandra and Rick Pfendler modified one of Hearthstone’s basic floor plans to customize the layout to their needs. They also took advantage of Hearthstone’s turn-key services. “This was critical for us, as I couldn’t take time from my business to be onsite during the construction,” said Rick Pfendler. Hearthstone handles the engineering, CAD/CAM modeling, crafting, delivery, and construction of each home they build. Their work is backed by a money-back guarantee to ensure that each home is done right.

Sweet says, “Logs are an inspirational and aspirational building material. They transcend money and square footage.” Sandra Pfendler describes their Hearthstone cabin as a place “where we can kick back. It is truly our sanctuary.”

Hall notes that “custom home building can be a challenge for both the builder and homeowner, no matter what kind of materials you are working with. I’m proud to say that the Pfendlers, who are custom home builders themselves, are good friends of ours to this day. I think that relationship is a testament to our ability as a company. Both of us are very pleased to receive this Log Home of the Year designation."

Hearthstone offers three broad product lines—all featuring highly crafted logs and timbers, and all rooted in the art and trade of the timberwright:
●    Hand Hewn Log Homes recall the traditional log homes from the 18th and 19th century, featuring hewn-flat logs with dovetailed corners and chinking between the logs.
●    Timber Frame Homes feature heavy timber framework, pegged and joined like it was centuries ago, creating dramatic interior spaces, allowing any imaginable interior style or exterior finish.
●    Fullscribe Log Homes evoke images of large mountain lodges with huge round logs, each carved to fit into the other in a Scandinavian style.

About Hearthstone
Hearthstone began in 1971 as a restoration company, working on structures that were 150-200 years old. With a strong foundation in handcrafting, heavy timber and log construction, and historical reproduction, Hearthstone quickly evolved into new construction and the company is now a licensed general contractor in Tennessee and North Carolina. Hearthstone sees creating an extraordinary custom home as a way of life, building homes of uncommon character, substance and value that will define a family for a century or more.
