The Cancer Alliance of Help and Hope Inc. is a grassroots, volunteer-governed organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of local individuals and families touched by cancer. The primary focus of the Cancer Alliance is to help cancer patients who live and/or receive treatment in Palm Beach County with their ordinary living expenses such as rent, mortgage, utilities, auto and health insurance, car payments, food and other basic necessities.

Cancer is a major public health problem in the United States. Currently one in four deaths in the U.S. is due to cancer. According to the latest statistics published by the American Cancer Society, the lifetime probability for cancer is higher in men (44 percent) than women (38 percent). The estimated new cases for 2012 are 1,638,910 and the number of deaths is 577,190. Lung cancer accounts for more deaths than any other cancer in both men and women. An estimated 160,340 deaths accounting for 28 percent of all cancer deaths are expected to occur in 2012.

“Cancer is a disease that affects not just the patient, but their family, friends and coworkers,” said Robert Ben-Eliyahu, Director-Human Resources. “In this community there are many patients and their families that are suffering financially as well. We believe the Cancer Alliance makes a difference in these patients’ lives and we are proud to offer our financial support.”

“Many of these cancer patients have a choice of paying for their treatment or paying their mortgage,” said Burt Kroner, President and CEO. “This is a financial crisis they shouldn’t have to face. Fortunately, the Cancer Alliance steps in and helps these people with their living expenses.”
