California company launches “Photo to Bamboo” as a more environmentally friendly way to present and preserve photos and art.

The final result is a high quality print with a more rustic feel than traditional canvas used for art or photos.

OneBellaCasa.com has launched a “Photo to Bamboo” product through their e-commerce website. Photos are printed directly on the bamboo using a proprietary printing process developed exclusively for the bamboo material. Consumers can upload, edit and preview what their photos will look like on bamboo prior to purchase on the OneBellaCasa.com website.

OneBellaCasa.com, which is owned and operated by Lightning E-Commerce LLC; developed the product after looking at the success of some contemporary artists with art on bamboo and in parallel the success of companies printing photos on canvas. “We knew there was a niche there to produce a high quality print that was also more sustainable than most canvases being used in the market” says Lightning CEO Gary Sattin.

The durability of the bamboo was also another contributing factor but also posed some challenges “The density and strength of the bamboo grain required a new printing process to get the photos to print at a high quality” Sattin continued. Lightning developed a multi-step process in partnership with Arte House, a specialty printing company based in Oxnard, California to overcome these challenges. “The final result is a high quality print with a more rustic feel than traditional canvas used for art or photos.”

Users can upload photos directly on the OneBellaCasa.com site, make edits to the photo if needed and finally see a preview of what their photo will look like printed on bamboo before they purchase. The product currently is offered in three sizes: 9”x12”, 12”x16”, 14”x20” with plans to expand into larger sizes this fall.

Why Bamboo – Bamboo which is actually a grass, yet is stronger than most traditional hardwoods like oak, can grow up to two feet per day. Once harvested, bamboo can grow a new stalk directly from the previous root system. As a canvas it is a very resilient material that does not swell or crack. In contrast, most modern canvases are produced from cotton that require heavy pesticide and nitrogen based fertilizers for cultivation which is hard on the environment.

Since then they have gone on to launch OneBellaCasa.com a personalized home décor site that allows the users to develop décor to their specifications and see a preview prior to purchase.
