Grey Beacon, LLC today introduced the release of The McIver™ (http://www.TheMcIver.com), their flagship software tool targeted at accounting and finance professionals. Grey Beacon is based out of Denver, Colorado with another office in Boise.
The software is made up of two primary tools. The first tool uses a groundbreaking, proprietary algorithm that identifies all combinations of numbers within a data set that equal a particular number defined by the user. The tool is the brainchild of Josh McIver and Sandy Mandair, who met and started the company while working toward their MBA’s at the University of Denver.
“This tool effectively automates a manual process that professionals who deal with numbers on a daily basis come across frequently. Finding reconciling differences or any type of numerical discrepancy is now much easier to do,” said Josh McIver, Grey Beacon’s CEO and Co-founder. Mr. McIver came up with the idea for this tool while working at Deloitte in their Audit and Enterprise Risk Services practice. “I remember spending hours at times sifting through data to find the right numbers that add up to an amount. Whether tracing a number back to the general ledger, searching for a reconciling difference or other scenario, I thought a tool like this would make my work so much more efficient,” said Mr. McIver. The software is priced at $15 per user, per month.
When asked about the name of the tool “The McIver”, Sandy Mandair, Grey Beacon’s Chief Operating Officer explained, “It’s an homage to McGyver, who could get out of a sticky situation with a set of unique tools, similar to our software. As much as Josh didn’t want us to name the tool after his last name, we couldn’t resist making the reference to McGyver.”
The second tool is a compare tool that automates the process of comparing two data sets. By simply uploading the data sets you want to compare and clicking a button, the software will compare the two data sets and output a document identifying all the discrepancies. “This process literally takes seconds. Each time you receive an iteration of a data set, finding the differences is a click away,” said Mr. Mandair, Grey Beacon’s Chief Operating Officer.
