Sarasota, FL (PRWEB) April 11, 2012
ShelterBox, an international disaster relief organization, is currently monitoring the impact of an earthquake and subsequent tsunami warning on Indonesia.
ShelterBox instantly responds to earthquake, volcano, flood, hurricane, cyclone, tsunami or conflict by delivering boxes of aid to help families rebuild their lives after losing everything in a disaster. Each iconic green ShelterBox contains a disaster relief tent, stove, blankets, water filtration system, and other tools necessary to help families live independently and with dignity in the months following disaster.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) reported two quakes of 8.2 and 8.6 magnitude off the west coast of Northern Sumatra. The larger quake was recorded by USGS around 270 miles from Banda Aceh, which was devastated by the tsunami on December 26, 2004.
The effects of the quake have been felt throughout Indonesia and many coastal areas have seen residents fleeing for higher ground.
ShelterBox is on standby to respond and holds prepositioned aid in the country for rapid deployment if required. The organization is currently responding to mudslides in Peru, an industrial accident in Congo and widespread flooding in Fiji.
