“Rep” DeLoach, estate planning attorney at DeLoach + Hofstra, will be offering a free workshop to people of all ages to get fully prepared for their senior years. The Workshop is April 12th at Oak Manor Senior Living Facility.

Estate planning is something that most put off for years – assuming they plan at all. However, creating an estate plan that includes a will or trust, medical directive and living will is imperative to senior planning, is relatively simple for a properly trained attorney, and can be fairly inexpensive, depending on an individual’s needs. At the workshop, Rep will explain the documents that everyone should have in place and give some tips and suggestions for ways to protect assets should Medicaid ever need to be used.

“Planning for your senior years is one of the best gifts you can give your family,” says Rep. “When a loved one becomes incapacitated due to age or illness, the family will have their hands full dealing with emotional issues. With our Life Care Planning services and proper estate planning in place, the caregiver can focus on what’s important and not worry about the legal, financial and healthcare issues.”

Another important topic covered in the workshop is recent changes in rules related to Power of Attorney documents. The Power of Attorney is a critical document in which can identify the person who will assume responsibility for finances if a loved one should become incapacitated. It is important to understand exactly what the Power of Attorney can and cannot do as well as the responsibilities of the designated representative before deciding whom that person should be.

The workshop is open to everyone, including to the children of aging parents. The workshop starts at 11 am at the Oak Manor Senior Living Facility located at 3600 Oak Manor Lane. Do to limited seats must be reserved by calling 727-581-9427.
