LAKELAND, FLORIDA (PRWEB) April 16, 2012
Autoshopper.com has volunteered top executives, Bob Draper and Jim Roberts to Kiss the Annual Pig, if enough funds are raised for the READ Lakeland's annual campaign for low-literacy adults.
Approximately 24% of adults living in Lakeland are functioning at the lowest levels of literacy. More than 29,000 adults in Polk County have less than a ninth grade education. On average, it takes immigrants six years to be able to accomplish most of the normal English language communication tasks required of them.
Teaching low- literacy adults to learn to read benefits our entire community. For every dollar invested in adult literacy programs, $33 are returned to the community through higher worker productivity, reduced health care costs, lower crime rates, reduced public assistance costs and higher educational achievement for the children of adults who improve their reading skills. Each year it cost about $500 to support a learner/tutor team. This is why support is so badly needed. Any support that can provide would be greatly appreciated...$5, $10, $25 or $50. The campaign ends April 20, 2012. Help win this campaign and help make Lakeland: The City That Reads. This is a pig worth kissing! All contributions to READ Lakeland are tax deductible. Gifts of $10 and above will be acknowledged with a letter. Please make you check payable to READ Lakeland, Inc. and mail to 1628 South Florida Avenue, Lakeland, Florida 33803 or Make an online donation at READLakeland.com click on the link “Kiss The Pig” and you will see a Just Give option for your donation.
