PIPELINE 2012, the third annual virtual conference on product development, kicks off May 10

On May 10 at PIPELINE 2012, http://www.pipeline2012.com, the professor known as the “guru to innovation gurus,” Jeff DeGraff, Ph.D., will close-out the breakthrough conference with radical insights on innovation. The co-author of numerous top-selling books on innovation with over 25 years advising companies including Apple, 3M, American Express and G.E., DeGraff will challenge today’s most popular beliefs on what drives innovation.

“I have bad news for everyone: innovation isn’t as cookie-cutter as we all hoped. It can’t be fully replicated no matter how hard a company strives to do so. My research and years of collaborating with top companies leads me to conclude that innovation – long-term innovation – is a portfolio of attributes,” said DeGraff. “Innovation requires a great deal of gumption, or ‘self-authorizing behavior,’ where individuals push through their ideas and bring them to fruition.”

PIPELINE 2012, a virtual, one-day, cross-industry conference focused on innovation, will bring together hundreds of product development leaders from across the globe for inspiration and strategy.

DeGraff, the Clinical Professor of Management and Organizations at the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business, executive director of the Innovatrium Institute for Innovation, and a managing partner of Competing Values Company, where he co-created the Competing Values Methodology, integrates innovation with finance, strategy and management when advising leading companies. He will provide attendees with unique insights into the stages of innovation, and why collaboration has its limitations when it comes to true breakthroughs.

“Jeff is a sought-after expert in innovation; when he speaks, leading companies listen,” said Patrick Tickle, executive vice president of products, Planview. “He’s bringing a new perspective to PIPELINE 2012 this year with a dichotomy: collaboration has its limits for driving innovation, yet at various stages innovation can be thought of as a portfolio. We’re excited to understand his unique and completely real-world perspective.”

PIPELINE 2012, hosted by Planview in conjunction with leading innovation firms Kalypso, the Product Development and Management Association (PDMA), IBM Rational, SmartOrg, five i’s and Pure Insight, is focused on inspiring product developers and discussing the strategies that support innovation. The free-to-attend virtual conference will highlight strategies for speeding time to market, strengthening brand position and driving market share. Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with speakers; network with other product developers; browse a virtual and interactive exhibition hall; and learn best practices that they can apply immediately in their organizations – all from the convenience of their offices.
