PapaHugs and El Camino YMCA will get your toes tappin' and blood flowin'! On April 14, El Camino YMCA is celebrating Healthy Kids Day® with a free community event for families with special headliner the Bay area’s own GRAMMY-Nominated The PapaHugs Band. Honored this year with its first GRAMMY® Nomination Best Children’s Album for “Are We There Yet?” The PapaHugs Band is known as much for its inspired original songs and cast of PapaHugs characters as it is for its rousing, interactive live performances for kids of all ages. The PapaHugs Band’s mission is to create a dynamic, memorable music experience in which the entire family participates as we all celebrate together the fun and important happenings in a child’s life.
“We're honored to have The PapaHugs Band performing at our event," said Sha Foland, Senior Program Director of Health and Wellness at El Camino YMCA. "Their interactive songs are educational, telling stories that kids of all ages can apply to life. With our 'Take on Summer' theme for Healthy Kids Day, we’re confident that kids and families will be inspired to stimulate their minds and bodies throughout the summer."
“We are thrilled to be part of this national initiative and will be performing some new songs such as ‘I'm a Chocolate-Milk Donut-Eating Machine,’ ‘Imaginary Friend,’ and ‘I'm a San Jose Kid,’ along with many of your favorites,” said PapaHugs Band founder and GRAMMY Nominee David Sharpe. “Fitness The Frog will be there getting the entire family into a healthy and fit mood. See you this weekend!”
More than 1,900 Ys across the country are taking part in the celebration throughout April, meant to kick start physical activity and learning throughout the summer – a critical out-of-school time for kids.
Healthy Kids Day, a national initiative of the Y to improve the health and well-being of kids, is filled with fun, active play and educational activities that will help parents improve their kids’ lifestyles for the long term. Research shows that without access to activities that stimulate the mind and body, kids are more prone to gain weight and fall behind academically over the summer months.
El Camino YMCA’s event will take place at the Y, located at 2400 Grant Road in Mountain View, from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Activities will include family fun and fitness, with relay races, kids’ yoga, Zumba®, story reading, demonstrations in science, horticulture, cooking and music, and healthy snack-making.
