The Gay Bar and Gay Club Locator should benefit both the LGBT community and local nightlife scenes everywhere.
Reston, Virginia (PRWEB) April 26, 2012
MapMuse today announced the release of the Gay Bar and Gay Club Locator app for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. The app connects members of the LGBT community with local bars and clubs that cater specifically to their lifestyle.
“We’re always looking for ways to connect specific communities with great businesses around them,” says Mike Pilon, owner of MapMuse. “The Gay Bar and Gay Club Locator should benefit both the LGBT community and local nightlife scenes everywhere.” Constructed as an interactive map-based directory, the app shows users the locations of nearly 1,500 gay bars and clubs across the country. Each establishment is given a profile page with helpful information such as contact details, venue type, hours, web links, photos, and more. Once a user finds a club nearby they’d like to visit, they can call ahead with one-touch dialing or get real-time driving directions via GPS. “We try to make it as simple as possible to get from point A to point B,” says Pilon.
Pilon is quick to point out that the Gay Bar and Gay Club Locator is more than just a map-based directory. “It’s a review platform too, sort of like a specialized Yelp for the gay nightlife scene,” he says. Users are encouraged to submit photos and reviews of the bars they visit, letting other users know where to find a good time (or, alternatively, where to find a bad one). Users can also suggest edits to a location’s profile page, as well as additional bars and clubs to add to the map. “Although our database is plenty big enough and accurate enough for the average partier, we’re crowdsourcing edits so that it’s constantly being refined,” says Pilon. Suggested edits, additions, and deletions are vetted by MapMuse’s staff before going live on the Map.
MapMuse, an internet and app development company based out of Reston, Virginia, has made a business out of building mobile apps and web maps locating pretty much any topic that can conceivably be plotted on a map. Some of the more popular topics mapped on their website include alternative fuel stations, nude beaches, and restaurants featured on the TV show Man v. Food.
