Funding is Available with The Business Finance Store.
Santa Ana, CA (PRWEB) April 13, 2012
42 U.S. Venture Capital funds raised $4.9 billion for businesses in the first quarter of 2012, the Orange County Register and Investor’s Business Daily reported. These numbers from a study by the National Venture Capital Association show a drop in Venture Capitalist (VC) funding. However, this means that VCs are still investing large quantities of money. Those who received VC funding may have experienced barriers to getting certain kinds of grants or funding from a selection of U.S. government offices in 2011 or years past. However, this has changed in recent times. Meaning if you got a piece of the $4.9 billion this year you might qualify for certain government programs. In the recent blog post “SBIR/SBTT Changes Benefit VC-Backed Startups,” The Business Finance Store discusses a change in the Small Business Innovation Research/Small Business Technology Transfer program that allows VC-backed businesses to get grants for businesses in key sectors.
At issue is the specific allocation of the 2.5% of an agency’s research budget that is set aside for “small businesses.” In times past, businesses that were backed by venture capital firms were not eligible; a press release from late last year shows that the U.S. Senate has now changed the rule so that up to 25% of some agency grants can be awarded to businesses with VC backing.
