In “Unanswered: Why Me? Why Anyone?” (published by Trafford Publishing), S.A. Macalister offers a powerful collection of poems on the aftermath of sexual abuse.

“It’s uncut, raw and detailed,” describes Macalister. “There was no editing of any of the poems. How I felt or thought is exactly what I said.”

Macalister, who experienced abuse at different points in her life, is dedicated to using her voice as a means to help others who are in similar circumstances.

“I was inspired to write this book when I realized how many people I knew who had been through similar experiences,” Macalister explains. “Writing poetry at first was a way to vent and deal with the myriad of emotions I was experiencing, but it soon turned into a source of strength and stability.”

While “Unanswered” focuses primarily on Macalister’s story, it also includes the stories of fellow survivors of sexual assault.

“Sexual abuse is always wrong – there’s no question about it. Regardless of the story that goes along with it, there’s bound to be pain and confusion attached to any occurrences of sexual abuse.”

Macalister hopes her book provides a source of strength for sexual abuse victims everywhere.
