Powhow, a destination for live webcam classes, today launched their consumer beta, allowing anyone with a webcam to find and take crafting, cooking, music, arts, DIY, and fitness classes from a curated roster of well-established instructors from all around the world. During its private beta, over 600 students and instructors worldwide have used Powhow to bake soufflés, play heavy metal, sew bikinis, apply make-up, and sculpt abs.
Over the last eight months, Powhow has worked closely with a select group of instructors to build a new destination and tools for scheduling and marketing online classes, as well as managing payments. Powhow addresses the pent up demand of fun, hobby-based instructors worldwide for a marketplace to conduct live online classes. Debra Lynn, a singing instructor uses Powhow to teach private and group lessons online. “I am thrilled beyond words that you have created this venue for teaching. As my work has gone out to a larger and more worldwide audience, this capacity to teach multiple students at once is literally priceless to me.”
Viva Chu, founder of Powhow, adds that “while Skype and Google Hangouts are okay for private lessons or small impromptu meetings, Powhow provides a place for instructors to build their brands and a complete solution of scheduling, email management, payments and refunds, and social media marketing tools that are essential to running a successful online business.”
Inspiration Ventures is the lead investor in Powhow. Powhow has several patents pending, including one for the combination of tools an instructor uses to create online classes.
