Feels good to know that there are organizations like CCA that are doing a lot of good for sick children that need support and strength to help them fight the difficult situation cancer puts them in. I'm proud my company is helping their cause.

As one of the Children's Cancer Association's major 2012 sponsors, a team of Parklane Mattresses' staff attended CCA's annual Get Inspired Luncheon. The luncheon started off with the very personal story from founder and CEO, Regina Ellis, about how CCA was created after the death of her oldest daughter who lost her fight with cancer at age five, and ended with an inspiring story from a father who's family was taken under the wing of CCA while his daughter battled her life-ending illness.

The majority of Parklane’s staff in attendance had been directly affected by cancer and left the luncheon inspired to do more. Whether it was a close friend, grandparent, parent or cousin Parklane's extended family has/is suffering from the damage cancer causes. It's easy to focus on the negative aspects of disease, but it's organizations like CCA that take a different approach—a positive one. It's all about living in the moment, surrounded by joy and creating memories.

"This has altered my false belief that bad things like cancer only affects the elderly who have already lived a full life." —Kersondra, Parklane customer service representative.

CCA offers award-winning programs and resources to seriously ill children (from birth to 18), their families and the medical professionals who care for them. They service all children seeking treatment in Oregon and SW Washington. When seriously ill kids and their families need more than medicine, CCA is there with compassion and innovation; creating moments of respite and hope, in the hospital and at home. Managed by a professional staff and powered by volunteers, CCA brings soothing music in a time of crisis; friendship in a time of loneliness; resources in a time of turmoil; as well as vital support in the midst of life-threatening illness. They call it Joy Rx.

"Hearing people’s stories impacted me the most. I never thought of how much a swing-set would mean to a family." —Andrew, Parklane sales associate.

In the months ahead, Parklane is looking forward to several CCA driven activities. This spring they will be a drop off location for a toy drive, attend the annual Hero Gala in the Fall and will sponsor a CCA family's Christmas. In addition to these events a few of Parklane’s dedicated staff will be joining CCA's chemo pal program, becoming directly involved with bringing Joy Rx to children.
