" one ever calls and asks for expensive movie insurance, they ask for cheap movie insurance..." says David, a website owned and managed by Brilliant Insurance Services, is now providing Film, Movie, and Production insurance in Ohio.

Getting cheap production insurance does not have to be hard, if you know where to look - just ask David Karubian, CEO of Brilliant Insurance Services. According to David, “…Film productions are my favorite type of policy to write.    Every quote is unique and I love to hear about the (widely) interesting projects that never make to the mainstream media”.

Last week Brilliant Insurance Services obtained their license in Ohio and are now transacting. “The majority of our calls come from low-budget, ‘Indie’ producers, that have dreams of taking their film to the festival and having it be a hit” says David. Part of the goal of the “indie” filmmaker is to create the film with as little cost as possible. Obtaining film insurance cheap is part of the goal.

There are four sections to the film policies – general liability, (rented) equipment, auto, and workers’ compensation. Most venues and all the film permit offices require the general liability. One of the first underwriting questions is “are there any stunts?” Having a “risky element” in the production will increase the cost or in some cases, make the risk ineligible to certain insurance carriers. “It’s all about being profitable to the insurance company…,” ads David.

There is a lot of filming activity in Ohio and that includes a growing number of “Indies”. When asked “why Ohio”, David’s reply was “well, over the past few months we have been adding on states that we offer coverage in – it started with some referrals and I really hate to say “no”, so we added Ohio, it’s just that simple.”

“Someone is going to write the policies,” says David, “and it may as well be me. Funny thing is no one ever calls and asks for expensive movie insurance, they ask for cheap movie insurance.”
