Aging in Control or Out of Control, John Peri-Okonny’s expert analysis of what ails Americans at a time when its population is aging, exposed to health risks and exponential rise in health care cost, guides the unwary and health challenged back into control over their bodies’ health and preventing diseases caused by absentminded consumerist diets and sedentary lifestyle from happening in the latter stages of life. It relates the factors; emotional, economic and temporal, that provides catalysts in positive and negative health changes.

Peri-Okonny speaks of two personalized wars raging in America today, and they are by no means the least of the wars that is plaguing the American body politic. In fact, the war for the nation’s taste buds (waged by the food industry) and the war for its health care (waged by the pharmaceutical industry) have caught the nation’s health in the crossfire. Over-reliance on medicines and the popularity of high salt and sugary snacks have turned Americans’ psychic immunity to disease into a blubbery, emotional mess that is even now becoming too difficult to remedy.

The book offers a very thorough and incisive examination of nutrition and health care issues that readers should be aware of, then proceeds to give step-by-step methods in solving these issues. The twenty-first century paradigm has shifted from disease treatment to preventive measures that teach the public to be responsible for and be in control of their diets, their emotional health, and the way their bodies progress as they age. John Peri-Okonny’s book is of undoubted relevance and value to an America that is close to being overwhelmed by abundance and consumption.

About the Author
John Peri-Okonny, MD, is a senior research scientist. The death of family members from common preventable and controllable disease risks changed the way he looked at health care. The event led to a turning point in his life when it became clear to him that the responsibility of your health care is not in the hands of your health-care providers, the pharmaceutical industry or the food industry, but individual responsibility with consultations from your health-care providers. We are responsible for our health care and defining how we want to age - “in control or out of control.” Since discovering this reality, he has devoted his life to helping people manage or avoid common preventable disease risks by changing their nutritional and lifestyle choices. He lectures on the need to know your health risks, manage your health-care choices, and encourages families to practice health and nutritional awareness at home before embracing the dangers of unhealthy lifestyle choices. He is vice chairman of the board of directors at the Barton Center for Diabetes Education and the director of Emaya Health Risk Assessment and Wellness Center in Worcester, Massachusetts, where he conducts life changing seminars on health and nutritional awareness.
