Author Doreen Virtue has written over 20 books on the general topic of angel therapy. In her angel workshops, she discusses – as can be found on her website – angels, chakras, Crystal Children, Indigo Children, health and diet, and other mind-body-spirit issues. Inspired by her message, Jeanne Lemmon Skinner delivers “Hummingbirds, Pennies, and Hope” (published by Balboa Press), her new young adult novel about a teenage girl who can communicate with angels.
Anna is a teenage girl and a typical high school student. When she takes an interest in researching angels, she discovers she can receive messages from her guardian angels. This brings her closer to God and causes conflicts as she shares her knowledge of communicating with angels with her peers. Anna’s resolve is put to the test in her quest to teach teens about angels.
“Hummingbirds, Pennies, and Hope” is fiction, but the events that happen in the book are based on real experiences. Skinner, an English teacher, wanted to write something uplifting for teens, because as she says, so much of what her students read in what she calls the teen issue genre is heavy and depressing.
She has found her students to be searching for something to hold on to. Over the years, she has had students from various religions, and some have professed to believe in God, but stated they didn’t have a religion. To her, God is universal for all people, and she believes that knowing His angels are there for everyone is comforting. It is her hope that young people, and old, will find hope by reading “Hummingbirds, Pennies, and Hope.”
