The Southwest Chapter of the ESOP Association, a regional organization of companies in Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico in which employees are owners through Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOP), has selected Acadian for the second time as its Company of the Year. Acadian first received Company of the Year in 2005.
The award was presented at the Southwest Chapter Awards Banquet on March 29, 2012, in Irving, Texas. Chance Louviere was in attendance to accept the honor and was delighted to have won the award in his first year as chairman of the ESOP Committee. "Being recognized for this award is proof that Acadian and its ESOP message are moving in the right direction,” said Louviere. “This shows that the employees are engaged in the ESOP culture.”
Also in attendance were Acadian ESOP Committee members Hunter Pinion, Shawn Legendre, Troy Guidry, Brandi Anderson and Brandy Trahan, as well as facilitator Marleen Hollier, Secretary Mark Brown and Vice Chair Laura Logan.
Acadian’s ESOP committee is comprised of a diverse group of employees from all divisions of Acadian Companies. They serve on a volunteer basis. The purpose of the Committee is to communicate and promote the benefits of employee ownership and ESOP among the Company’s 3,600 employees.
CFO David Kelly is Acadian’s principal officer regarding direction for the ESOP, vice chairman of the Board of Directors of the National ESOP Association, and a member of the board of trustees of the National Employee Ownership Foundation. As the regional winner, Acadian will compete against a field of ESOP Companies of the Year from The ESOP Association’s 17 other state and regional chapters for the title “National ESOP Company of the Year." The winner of this prestigious award will be announced at the ESOP Association’s 35th Annual Conference in Washington, DC, in May. Acadian has already been informed that it will receive another national award at the Annual Conference. This award is for communication excellence in the category “Special Events & Promotions" in recognition of the Company’s 2011 Employee Owner Annual Meeting, a day-long celebration of employee ownership attended by over 1,000 of the Company’s employees.

Acadian ranks among the top 100 employee-owned companies in the U.S., according to a list compiled by the National Center for Employee Ownership. The men and women of Acadian became employee-owners of the largest privately owned ambulance service in the U.S. in 1993, with the adoption of an Employee Stock Ownership Program. Under the plan, 80 percent of the company value in stock is available to employees. The plan involves placing the stock in trust, with those shares acquired by employees redeemable in cash at the time of retirement.
